چکیده

DNA methylation is an essential epigenetic mechanism influencing gene expression in all organisms. In metazoans, the pattern of changes during embryogenesis and adult life. Consequently, differentiated cells develop a stable unique that finely regulates mRNA transcription development determines tissue-specific expression. Currently, remains poorly investigated mollusks completely unexplored Mytilus galloprovincialis . To shed light on this process ecologically economically important bivalve, we screened its genome, detecting sequences homologous to methyltransferases (DNMTs), methyl-CpG-binding domain (MBD) proteins Ten-eleven translocation methylcytosine dioxygenase (TET) previously described other We characterized architecture protein domains mussel studied their phylogenetic relationships with ortholog from bivalve species. then comparatively levels across different tissues bivalves, using published transcriptome datasets. This study provides first insights regulators M. , which may provide fundamental information better understand complex role played by regulating genome activity bivalves.

New Insights into the Apoptotic Process in Mollusks: Characterization of Caspase Genes in Mytilus galloprovincialis

Apoptosis is an essential biological process in the development and maintenance of immune system homeostasis. Caspase proteins constitute the core of the apoptotic machinery and can be categorized as either initiators or effectors of apoptosis. Although the genes encoding caspase proteins have been described in vertebrates and in almost all invertebrate phyla, there are few reports describing t...

Genes of the Mitochondrial Apoptotic Pathway in Mytilus galloprovincialis

Bivalves play vital roles in marine, brackish, freshwater and terrestrial habitats. In recent years, these ecosystems have become affected through anthropogenic activities. The ecological success of marine bivalves is based on the ability to modify their physiological functions in response to environmental changes. One of the most important mechanisms involved in adaptive responses to environme...

DNA methylation of tumor suppressor genes in hepatocellular carcinoma

The basic unit of chromatin is a nucleosome included an octamer of the four core histones and 147 base pairs of DNA. Posttranslational histones modifications affect chromatin structure resulting in gene expression changes. CpG islands hypermethylation within the gene promoter regions and the deacetylation of histone proteins are the most common epigenetic modifications. The aberrant patterns of...

Author's personal copy Evolutionary insights into DNA methylation in insects

Epigenetic information affects gene function and plays a critical role in development. DNA methylation is one of the most widespread epigenetic marks and has been linked to developmental plasticity in insects. Here, we review the patterns and functions of DNA methylation in insects. We specifically focus on how the application of an evolutionary framework has led to important insights into the ...

Osmoregulated Chloride Currents in Hemocytes from Mytilus galloprovincialis

We investigated the biophysical properties of the transport mediated by ion channels in hemocytes from the hemolymph of the bivalve Mytilus galloprovincialis. Besides other transporters, mytilus hemocytes possess a specialized channel sensitive to the osmotic pressure with functional properties similar to those of other transport proteins present in vertebrates. As chloride fluxes may play an i...
